Equipment/Shop Manager
Punta Brava Golf and Surf Club, located on a dramatic peninsula in Baja California, is seeking a highly skilled, independent, and detail-obsessed Shop Manager / Head Mechanic to lead the equipment maintenance operations for our growing club. This is a new position offering a rare opportunity to build the shop department from the ground up with the full backing and support of club leadership.
We are looking for someone who takes extreme pride in their work, is fiercely proactive, and can own the equipment operation with minimal oversight. You’ll have access to a top-tier fleet (new, with significant investment), the authority to shape the shop layout and tool selection, and the trust to maintain world-class equipment standards.
Club Highlights:
- A primarily Toro fleet of equipment.
- Currently a team of 8-10 with plans to grow to 35
- Rainbird irrigation system
- Fewer than 7,000 annual rounds
- Golf course grasses include Fescue, Bermuda, and Bentgrass
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of the equipment maintenance operation including diagnostics, repairs, preventive maintenance, and recordkeeping.
- Establish and implement efficient systems and processes for equipment tracking, parts inventory, and tool management.
- Perform thorough evaluations on current fleet and ensure readiness of new incoming equipment.
- Maintain the highest standards for cutting units and ensure all reels are dialed in consistently.
- Troubleshoot and repair a variety of equipment including diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, and electronics.
- Order and manage parts, supplies, and tools with autonomy.
- Manage a growing equipment staff (currently 1 FT, eventually supported by a PT role as needed).
- Work closely with the Superintendent while maintaining autonomy in all shop-related operations.

- High mechanical aptitude across a range of modern turf equipment.
- Obsessive about quality and reliability of equipment.
- Extremely self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Ability to think creatively and improvise—especially in remote or unpredictable settings.
- Comfortable working in Mexico and capable of adapting to local resources and culture.
- High tolerance for autonomy—this position is ideal for someone who thrives without micromanagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a golf course technician or equipment manager
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong understanding of reel grinding, hydraulic systems, and general engine repair.
- Fluency in Spanish is helpful but not required.
